Explain how you feel your background and experience will help the cooperative fulfill its mission of providing exceptional service and value to its member-owners.
For the past 12 years I have served on multiple not-for-profit Boards in various positions including membership driven organizations where I have learned to not just participate, but to listen to others and understand varying perspectives. My career has also taught me a lot more beyond landscape architecture and how best can I collaborate with others in order for a project to be successful. My background and experience, especially as a member that has been on the receiving end of exceptional service, will serve to continue the mission serving the member-owners of the Cooperative.
What avenues do you think United Cooperative Services might explore to make sure that it is seen as being a true asset to the members and communities it serves?
One avenue that United Cooperative Services is already exploring and advancing that I am interested in learning more about is how we can best serve the membership through other viable, renewable alternatives such as wind and solar. From a recent, personal experience watching a family member handle the estate of a relative who had passed away that was scammed by a solar energy company, I want to ensure that Members have the accurate information and knowledge that there are reputable companies out there that can serve Members that are looking at these energy alternatives.
Highlight at least one of the seven cooperative principles and its importance to the membership of the cooperative.
One of the seven cooperative principles that first stands out to me is Education, Training and Information. I come from a family that includes many Educators, retired and current, in the Public-School Systems within the State of Texas. Education and the desire to never stop learning was preached within our household from an early age. Expanding your knowledge is truly important to the membership, but also to those who are elected representative, and employees just as it is stated on the website “so they can contribute to the development of their cooperatives”. No matter the position, title, role, the Cooperative is a Team and only as strong as Team Members.
List a few important business areas you believe the cooperative needs to be focused on in the next few years and explain why?
While only being a Member for the last 2 years, the level of service I have received in two areas of business from my perspective have been timely responses and strong communication from the Cooperative. Yes, being a responsible fiduciary is highly important, however I think along that same level of importance is effective and strong communication amongst the Team. As we work as a Team towards the future, we should never forget the past, and have a full understanding of the present engaging and communicating with each other along the way.
